ABOUT & CONTACT
Hey friend, Thanks for coming to The Tavern website!
If you’re here looking at this site, you’ve probably heard about the movie and are thinking about coming along.
Basically, it was made in a pub in Cambridge (The Masonic Hotel a.k.a The Mudd) for next to no money (we spent most of the budget on piss) and is about “five small-town guys trying to save their beloved yet run-down pub from an evil Ponsonby property developer with sinister plans.”
It’s pretty silly. It’s pretty offensive. It’s very Kiwi. It’s basically country bogans vs. a handsome city slicker.
I’d say it has the absurdity of Step Brothers mixed with the Kiwi bogan f#ck-you attitude of The Devil Dared Me To.
If you like It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Eastbound & Down, Old School, The Castle, Trailer Park Boys, Hardy Bucks, Letterkenny, or Back of the Y, this will be for you.
Underneath all the swear words and crude comedy, it’s ultimately a story about friendship and being happy with your lot.
This film was made by a bunch of friends with help from the Cambridge community.
This is an R16 that will realistically have a limited life. It will mainly play at the Tivoli Cinema in Cambridge and a few select cinemas around New Zealand (whoever is brave enough to take us).
How long will it be on for? That’s up to you. If you guys keep coming, they’ll keep playing it.
This won’t be coming to streamers anywhere, so if you want to watch it, the cinema is the only place. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.
Anyway, get on that group chat, rustle up all your mates (not your easily offended ones), and book some tickets right now for the greatest New Zealand piss-drinking movie since Once Were Warriors.
Cheers, Honest Matt Hicks
